Wix, WordPress or a custom website: which is right for your business

Three ways to have a website, with their real costs, what you can do with each and how to move if you're already on Wix.

Short answer

Wix makes sense to get started quickly with a template, if you have time to build it and you're fine with a monthly fee in dollars. WordPress gives you more freedom, but it needs hosting and maintenance. A custom website is paid once, it's yours and it performs better on speed, SEO and custom features. Always compare the total cost over two years.

  • Wix: quick and simple, with an ongoing fee and a design tied to the platform.
  • WordPress: flexible, with hosting, plugins and technical maintenance on you.
  • Custom: one-time payment, your own design and everything in your name.

What's the difference between Wix, WordPress and a custom website?

All three give you a website, but they work differently. Wix is a site builder: you pick a template, edit it by dragging blocks and pay for a plan to use your own domain and remove the ads. WordPress is a system you install on a hosting account and build with themes and plugins. A custom website is designed and coded by someone based on your brand and on what your business needs it to do.

How much do Wix and a custom website cost over two years?

Comparing Wix's first-month price with the one-time payment for a custom website doesn't tell you much: they're different models. The fair way is to add up everything you pay over two years, including your time.

As a rule: if you're going to keep the website for several years and don't want to depend on a fee in dollars, a one-time payment usually works out better. If you need something for tomorrow and to test an idea, Wix is a good way in. To see every cost of keeping a website online, read how much it costs to maintain a website.

When does Wix make sense?

  • You're testing an idea and don't know if it will still be around in six months.
  • You have the time and the will to build it yourself, and a template is enough.
  • You need something very simple: one page with contact details and a few photos.
  • You don't mind paying a fee for as long as the website exists.

When does WordPress make sense?

  • You're going to publish a lot of content (a blog, articles, resources) and want a dashboard to add it.
  • You have someone to keep plugins updated and make backups.
  • You need a feature that already exists as a plugin and you don't want to develop it.

WordPress's weak spot is maintenance: outdated plugins, conflicts between plugins and slow sites are the problems we see most when people ask us to rebuild a website.

When does a custom website make sense?

  • You want to stand out from the competition with a design that isn't a template.
  • Showing up on Google and in AI tools matters to you: a custom website is built with a structure and data designed for that.
  • You need your own features: a quote tool, a configurator, bookings that land in your calendar, a calculator.
  • You want everything in your name and not to depend on a platform.

Real examples: DG Trailers Náuticos has a configurator that puts together the trailer order and sends it over WhatsApp; MultiBOMBAS has a calculator that helps each customer figure out which pump they need. Those are features a template doesn't come with. More projects in our projects.

Is Wix bad for SEO?

No. Wix lets you edit the title, description and URL of each page, and there are Wix sites that rank well. What matters is the usual: useful content, speed on mobile, good structure and consistent data. The difference is control: on a custom website you decide every detail of the code, the structured data and the speed; on a site builder, only what the platform lets you touch. If you want to work on it seriously, see our SEO for small businesses.

How do I move my website from Wix to my own site without losing Google rankings?

It can be done, carefully. Wix doesn't let you export the design to another provider, so the website gets rebuilt. What you need to keep is what Google already knows:

  1. The domain. If you bought it on Wix, transfer it; if it's a .com.ar, it's already registered with NIC Argentina in your name and you only change where it points.
  2. The list of current pages, with their URLs, so the important ones keep existing or redirect to their replacement.
  3. 301 redirects from every old URL to the new one, so you don't lose rankings or links.
  4. Copy that already ranks, improved but without deleting what works.
  5. Search Console, to tell Google about the new sitemap and check for errors after the move.

That's what we do in our website redesign without losing your rankings. Before you pay, we show you a free visual proposal of how it would look.

What should you ask before choosing a platform or a provider?

Whether it's Wix, WordPress or custom, these questions prevent most of the problems we see later:

QuestionWhy it matters
Whose name are the domain and accounts in?If they're not in your name, switching providers or platforms becomes a long process.
How much do I pay in the second year? Many plans and domains have a promotional first-year price and a higher renewal.
Who makes the changes and how much do they cost?A website only someone else can edit means delays and a cost for every tweak.
What happens if I stop paying? On a site builder, the website goes offline and the design can't be moved. On your own website, the files are yours.
How fast does it load on a phone? Most visits come from phones, and a slow website loses inquiries and rankings.
Does it include titles, descriptions and data for Google?Without that, the website exists but nobody finds it.

At MyLeads we answer all of them in writing in the proposal: price in pesos, timeline, rounds of changes and what stays in your name. See the details of each plan in custom website prices, or, if you're just starting out and only have Instagram today, read why your business needs its own website.

FAQ

Common questions about Wix and custom websites.

01

Wix or WordPress: which is better?

It depends on who's going to maintain it. Wix is simpler and Wix takes care of the technical side, in exchange for a fee and being tied to the platform. WordPress gives you more freedom, but someone has to update plugins and make backups.
02

How much does Wix cost in Argentina?

Wix charges monthly or yearly plans, in dollars, and prices change by country, currency and promotions. Check the current price on its official plans page before deciding.
03

Can I take my Wix design to another provider?

No. A design made on Wix stays on Wix. If you move, the website gets rebuilt; what you can keep is the domain and the content.
04

Is a custom website more expensive than Wix?

At first, yes, because you pay for the design upfront. Over two or three years it can cost the same or less, because there's no mandatory fee. The fair comparison is the total cost, including your time.
05

Do I lose rankings if I leave Wix?

Not if the move is done right: same domain, 301 redirects from every old page to the new one and letting Google know through Search Console.
06

How much does a custom website cost with MyLeads?

Landing ARS 100,000 - ARS 300,000, Starter ARS 450,000 - ARS 600,000, Full ARS 750,000 - ARS 950,000 and Enterprise with custom pricing. One-time payment in pesos, with a free visual proposal before you pay.
